Biography of the Advisor

Ms. Rachel M. Cotton is an Art Advisor, Graphic Designer, Illustrator, and Mixed Media Painter in Americus, Ga. She is a graduate of Brenau University Women's College, Gainesville Georgia where she earned a BFA in Studio Art with an emphasis in Ceramics and Sculpture. In 2005, Cotton earned an MFA in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga.

Cotton built a successful fine art and graphic design business in Savannah, Georgia under the name Cotton Studios. After relocating to North Carolina in 2011, Cotton taught art and design at Arts on Main, the Gaston School of the Arts, and in various private settings while also building Stellar Platinum, a hospitality and event management company with a specialty in catering and food services. Cotton used her skills in Sales & Marketing while learning a new set of skills including general management, financial management, analysis and strategic planning for distressed properties, execution and implementation of those strategic plans. While learning a great deal about corporate structure and operations, Cotton longed for the world of art, design and creativity.

In 2015, Cotton and her son relocated to her hometown in Americus, Ga where she worked at Old Biscayne Designs as Graphic Designer, Photographer, and Marketing Professional for Old Biscayne Designs, a high-end custom fine furniture manufacturer in Americus.

Ms. Cotton is now enjoying sharing her love of the arts and creative thinking with middle school and high school scholars at Furlow Charter School.

With a varied professional background, Cotton thrives on developing concepts and ideas while actively manifesting them in the physical world. Cotton's design, illustration, and fine art work can be found in many collections across the United States as well as several publications including The Landings Magazine, Savannah; Charleston Magazine, Charleston; Belles & Beaus Magazine, Savannah; The Gaston Gazette Special Publications, and more.
